Honoring Roots

Built in 1949 by Texas oilman and radio personality Eddie Chiles, this home underwent a comprehensive cosmetic remodel designed to honor its mid-century roots while giving it fresh life for a new chapter. Original limestone floors were stripped back, walls and ceilings were finished in custom-mixed limewash, and layers of wallpaper, new millwork, updated plumbing, and hardware brought renewed depth throughout the home. Vintage lighting—sourced both in Europe and from Round Top Antiques Fair—adds a collected sense of history and charm at every turn.

The furnishings were approached as a true layering exercise: custom-designed pieces mixed with family heirlooms and newly sourced antique and vintage finds, creating rooms that feel deeply personal, storied, and effortlessly lived in. Every detail was selected to complement the home’s original architecture while adding warmth, texture, and character.

To make construction easier for the family, the guest house was completed first—offering a fully realized preview of the design direction and setting the tone for the main residence to follow.
